had a most wonderful day today hanging out at the auckland art gallery. it was recently renovated and it is absolutely stunning! especially stunning is the large red flower tree piece at the entrance, it’s my favorite. we arrived when the afternoon sun was shining right on it and the red color was so intense! it’s one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen. afterwards, i spotted this cute little taiwanese bakery right by the museum (last picture). i was hungry and gave them a try. surprisingly, it is pretty authentic! so if anyone’s looking for good taiwanese cakes/breads/baked goods, i highly recommend this place. later, we ate some delicious and cheap ramen at a nearby japanese restaurant where our waiter, a white male, spoke perfect japanese. so impressed! i’ve been forever wishing to learn japanese, but for some reason it’s just so hard for me to pick up. on the drive home, the (super) full moon was shining so brightly amongst the clouds-it was so gorgeous. the perfect view to end a great day.

the weather held up for the weekend, easter sunday being the nicest. the sun shone so brightly you had to have sunnies on whenever you looked out and it was actually hot the entire day that it felt like summer had finally arrived.
we started the day picking up bf’s new longboard where i got pushed to the ground by a staffordshire or something like it dog eager to plant me with kisses (this always seems to happen to me…). after a delicious late lunch cooked by a friend that included purple (maori) potatoes(!), bf and i headed off to piha, the one major beach in auckland that i haven’t been to. it sure didn’t disappoint! piha is absolutely stunning. watching a gorgeous golden sunset on the drive back home was the perfect end to a lovely day.

unbelievably good weather for a weekend that was suppose to be rained out…hope it holds!
happy easter everyone!
oh, you know, just casually hanging out on the street next to my new car and dog.
yesterday:
- the bf and i drove around in circles going to open houses, 8 in 3 hours, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s a small feat, in my opinion, considering most were around the same time and opened for only 30 minutes, plus the time it takes to drive to each place.
- held our friends’ baby now around a month old, looked at how cute and sweet he was and actually thought for a second, ‘hey, maybe this wouldn’t be so bad.’ (SCARY!)
- this comfy, most beautiful blue sweatshirt i’m wearing is from the little boys section in kmart. yeah. (awesome or creepy? idk. maybe both.)
- chicken in a can (yeah, i can’t believe they make this stuff) doesn’t taste like chicken. it doesn’t taste particularly like anything at all. kind of scary. (stay away.)
- discovered i’m getting eye wrinkles!!! *gasp!* what is this madness?!?!! eye cream at night is a must now. oh, the woes of getting older… :\

so i recently had malaysian food for the first time. i liked it a lot! it actually reminded me of what chinese food is in the states! haha not that i don’t appreciate real, authentic chinese cooking, but i do sometimes miss the greasy americanized chinese take out.
i also tried out dumplings from barilla after reading about the place from katherine is awesome. (why does it seem like she’s the only nz blogger? anyone know of others like her? also, is there a nz equivalent of yelp? it would really be a helpful thing to have.) when we got there on a sunday night, the place was packed with a line out the door. we chose to get take out instead of waiting for a table and after a way-too-long time deciding what to get from their large menu, we ordered pork with chives, pork with cabbage (fried), pork with shrimp, and the suggested pork and fennel by eatherenow.co.nz. (oh goodness, i’m getting really hungry now…) although the skin was thicker than what i like (i like those gyoza thin dumplings), all the fillings were absolutely delicious. i wasn’t terribly fond of the fennel one, but i think that might be because i didn’t grow up eating fennel. my favorite and i think the best filling for any dumpling is pork with chives-it’s hard to mess up a classic. obviously, there were leftovers as the dumplings were big and came 20 per order. i fried them for lunch the next day, and guess what? still delicious! can’t wait for the next time.

please excuse my cheesy edit of this picture! i was watching something on tv yesterday and the dream effect sorta stayed with me and i wanted to play with it. the photo itself is somewhat of an accident, but i liked that my face actually managed to look decent whilst running so it became my pick to show you guys what i wore to a wedding last week.
it was actually the first wedding i’ve ever been to…and i didn’t even know the bride or groom. highlights included:
- sitting through a damp ceremony (it drizzled)
- multiple mosquito bites and one instance where i went scratch the bite and came away with the dead bloody mosquito under my nail (ew! don’t you just hate when that happens?)
- pouring gravy all over my dinner (i love gravy!) and then realizing it was from lamb stock, not beef or chicken (i don’t like lamb) :\
of course, it wasn’t all bad. hearing how these two strangers fell in love and witnessing their families coming together was pretty heart warming. you can’t help but smile and be happy for them both :)
p.s. i wore my hair with a middle part for the first time since…perhaps middle school. what do you guys think? do i look better with a side or middle part?

went for a vintage-inspired look for the bf’s work holiday party this past weekend. snapped these quick photos on the phone as we were running out the door. the party was so fun! i haven’t been drinking in a looong while, good thing i still remember how to hold my liquor ;)
in other really wonderful exciting news, my long-time bestie tim got married in india this past week! very bummed i could not be there for the celebration, but sooo happy for the newlyweds! *virtual hugs!!!* i’m watching the darjeeling limited right now in honor and because it’s one of my favorite films :)
hope everyone has a great christmas!

saw this photo on the sartorialist a while ago and thought, ‘hey, i have a black sweater and black shorts, i can replicate this outfit!’ so that is what i wore when we took a drive up north last week. simple outfits rock!

thanksgiving is tomorrow…but it’ll just be like any other day here…
this is my second year missing it, and not like i have a big family to celebrate it, but i wish i could sit at the table with my mom eating roast chicken and whatever delicious food she cooks (miss you mom!).
but oh well, life goes on.
wore this dress for the first time since i bought it in singapore because it’s been too cold to be outside bare legged. and boy, did i pick the worst day to. it was cold AND extremely windy. i suppose i could’ve worn tights but i really wanted to believe warmer weather was here…it is here, just not on that particular day…d’oh!
hope everyone has a nice thanksgiving/thursday!
